
A foot of dry leaves covers my garden beds, buried now under snow. The leaves won’t blow, nor the snow. And I will harvest carrots, turnips, and all matter of other root veggies under the snow and leaves, where the soil is soft. In spring I will pull the leaves back and once again will discover the richest, most fertile black soil you’ve ever known.
