I am convinced that those who offer opinions of vegetable growing simply look up other opinions and offer them as their own. Do this, don’t do that. But where’s the evidence? Repeat something often enough and it becomes truth. Well, as you might expect , but I don’t buy it.
For example, I’ve read it everywhere, even in reputable seed catalogs, that peppers won’t germinate on time, or germinate at all, at temperatures below 80F. Many suggest using heating mats, or placing trays atop your fridge where it’s warm, but this is pure nonsense. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s still nonsense. My room temps are 71F on a good day, and my peppers and eggplant are all up now, 10 days after sowing.
(Of course, since I don’t believe in rules, maybe neither do my seeds )
My peppers always germinate just fine at room temperature and my house isn’t especially warm. “they” say lots of things that aren’t so.
